The programme was inaugurated and concluded by The Right Honourable Sir Julian Flaux, Chancellor of the High Court of the United Kingdom, who delivered both the welcome and closing remarks. Throughout the week, sessions explored diverse subjects such as fraudulent registration, maritime cybersecurity, decarbonization, and the electronification of commercial documents, reflecting the multifaceted transformation currently shaping the maritime sector.
opportunity:
Understanding the opportunity in the maritime energy transition is especially important to nations of the global south where the building of required infrastructure for this transition is still in the nascent stages. In many cases, the awareness is non-existent. The opportunity is thus multidimensional: the opportunity to gain expertise which translates into better port facilities, cleaner shipping, and greener environments.
The conference was thus helpful in creating the awareness for the energy transition, and highlighted the inherent opportunities therein. WMU remains poised to offer capacity building opportunities to develop the expertise required for this transition.
