Dr. Vonintsoa Rafaly, Postdoctoral Fellow at the World Maritime University (WMU)-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute (GOI) participated in the European International Studies Association - 19th Pan-European Conference on International Relations (EISA-PEC) held on 1-4 September 2026 at the ISTCE - University Institute of Lisbon, Portugal.

about the conference

The conference brought together researchers from a diverse range of disciplines within international studies, from Europe and beyond. The programme featured sessions addressing key issues in contemporary international relations, with contributions from leading experts, alongside social and networking events fostering exchange and collaboration within the international studies community.

  • Dr. Vonintsoa Rafaly participated in several sessions addressing future studies, Arctic issues, global commons and global governance. Her participation provided an opportunity to engage with researchers working across these areas, strengthen the WMU-GOI research network, and share research developed under Pillar 4 of the Future Ocean Programme on Future of Ocean Governance.

  • Dr. Vonintsoa Rafaly also took part in a roundtable within the section on ‘Global Ocean and Polar Justice’ (GOPJ), discussing a forthcoming research output, “The Engineered Ocean: Global Ocean Politics at the Age of Infrastructure”, in which she is involved alongside researchers from Copenhagen and Bremen.
