law as a tool for global commons futures
2026 öresund international law workshop
Bringing together scholars and practitioners of international law, the workshop will examine contemporary attempts to use law as a tool to construct desirable futures for, and in, global commons. The event is organized within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Lund University Faculty of Law and WMU.
This year’s theme is inspired by research undertaken through the WMU–Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute’s Future Ocean Programme. Funded by The Nippon Foundation, the Future Ocean Programme is a four-year interdisciplinary research initiative that investigates how law, political science, and public policy can be leveraged to transform humanity’s relationship with the ocean. The programme focuses on addressing the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution
The Öresund International Law Workshop
The Öresund International Law Workshop was first established in 2018 to foster collaboration among international law researchers across the Öresund region. Since then, it has served as a platform for discussing emerging legal challenges, strengthening regional academic networks, and promoting interdisciplinary dialogue.
